The U.S. is the larger economy that is on the generally on technological frontier

Man, you are so out of touch, it is hard to believe.

Then again, maybe you know something about the Americans that we don't know.

How is their 5G build out going? We just do not get news on that anymore.

What is that status of their electrifying their grid with green technology, what are they currently doing?

Outside of TELSA, will any other American car company make an EV that will be affordable and in demand. Will those legacy car companies even survive.

Then you can tell us which industries that the Americans still have a lead in this world.

I'm going off on a tangent a bit, but I was thinking about the types of laws they can relax or tweak to allow for the creation of new types of businesses to improve consumption or exports.

I think one area in mind is adult-related entertainment. There are popular sites that allow users to request customized sexually explicit content the economics of which would work well in China. I think there can be an exception made for sexually explicit content that has artistic value and promotes traditional family values (no rape, incest, LGBQT, etc). I expect there will be a lot of demand for high-production versions of some wuxia-related material, or an explicit version of Love and Deep Space. China has the largest sex toy industry so it's not as if the government is anti-sex. Of course, the apps, sites, and businesses in this market will be strictly monitored and regulated. The global adult industry might be a $100 billion dollar business, so there is definitely money to be made here.

Secondly, I think the censorship of media such as games, TV shows, and films should be relaxed regarding violence and adult content. As long as the subject matter is apolitical and doesn't stray too far from Chinese values, it should be tolerated. With the Western entertainment industry self-censoring due to woke politics, I think there is a window of opportunity for Chinese games, TV shows, and movies to take increasingly more market share.

The bonus of the two above businesses is that they are sanction / blacklist / tariff proof.

Another relaxation that I propose is relaxing firearm laws to allow citizens to purchase modified firearms but not ammunition. Ammunition is only purchasable at licensed and heavily controlled gun ranges and must be used or returned before the customer leaves. The gun market in the US is $20 billion. We can allow the Chinese population to enjoy gun ownership without the downsides. We already know that we're the best shooters in the world based on olympic results.

I understand that the suggestions that I made might rub some members the wrong way. Feel free to flame away!

The only one I might agree with is loosening restrictions on adult content but even there, China is not beyond the norm in East Asia.

ALL of mainland East and Southeast Asia have similar censorship from South Korea to Singapore.

the only exceptions are islands like Japan, Taiwan and Philippines.

If China does it it will be the exceptional one. Nothing wrong with being exceptional but that is the fact.

Censorship of violence in media should be on par with comparable global standards, not loose US standards.

Private gun ownership is a very bad idea and there's a reason why almost every civilized country bans it or has it as part of conscription.

No to adult entertainment.

Games censorship is more lax nowadays than what it was and the future projection is that it get more akin to world-wide standards, but it will take time.

And, also again, a big no to gun relaxation (at most, maybe some shooting ranges or like, paintball or the likes).
