Transsion, the rapidly growing Chinese smartphone company in Africa has been sued by Qualcomm and Phillips for licensing violations. They were also sued in 2019 by Huawei for licensing violations.
It doesn't matter if they're sued as long as they're sharp enough to avoid paying and have no worthwhile assets abroad to be confiscated. Given what I know about Transsion, that's probably the case.......... :D:D:D:D:D:p:p:p:p:p:p

China's trade surplus in June is the highest since at least 1990, while the trade surplus in the first half of 2024 is $425 billion. I don't think China relies on Western markets that much nowadays. It would be another record if China's export can keep up the pace in the second half.
While China’s trade surplus is high in absolute numbers, it really isn’t that high as percentage of its GDP (only 3.2% of GDP). Its economy’s reliance on trade surplus is exaggerated. In fact least 30 countries have higher reliance on trade surplus.

It does matter. If they fail to get a licensing agreement it’s possible for Qualcomm and Phillips to move to block all imports of Transsion phones. They would have an easier time blocking it in the US but they could 100% make it very difficult for them to export stuff to Africa if they’re determined enough.

Which Philips patents are these? I am kind of curious since that failure of a company does not even make lightbulbs anymore ever since they spun out their lighting division. At best they might make like medical gear? But phones? Please.
