After Putin’s visit to Beijing, cross-border transactions with China have started to recover through regional banks which are less vulnerable to secondary sanctions. Small regional banks in China have now begun to work directly with Russian businesses. Since May, even payments for electronics, which were previously blocked, have been accepted again.

China looks like it’s ahead of schedule on emissions ... It’s also subsidizing overcapacity in coal power as a backstop to intermittent wind and solar, a strategy that essentially skips using gas as a transitional fuel.

These journalists don't have a clue what they are talking about. Coal isn't a replacement for gas peaker plants. It takes hours for the boilers to heat up or cool down and vary the power generation. With gas turbines spooling generation up or down is basically instant.

And Beijing is developing other sources of gas as well. It’s raising domestic production and relying more heavily on pipeline supplies, particularly from its strategic partner Russia, which are much cheaper than seaborne shipments.

China also should soon add more pipeline transport capacity from Turkmenistan to import natural gas as well.

All that talk about making things easier for people to move their factories to India but when the time for action comes, zero (actually, negative) results
