Chinese Economics Thread

I doubt it would be a total ban for all companies doing IPO overseas. Most probably the West is scaremongering.

However if this is true then that says to me that the CPC is gearing for protracted economic warfare against the West by shoring up its compehensive national strength. This means that China wants to become a strong financial center similar to the US and attracting funds from around the world.

Again, if what he is saying true, then the CPC is gearing for total confrontation on the economic front.

Westerners are going to lose it when they see how fast China makes decisions when under threat. Popcorn!

Not good. Target is 1.24 million sq km but this is still a decline from a decade earlier

It is actually not as bad as I thought. Should be slowing down soon once all the forests converted to farmland is converted back to forests, and urbanisation slows down.

Also, China has plenty of arable land, it's just terribly used. Rural villagers are given free reign to build gigantic houses (with inefficient designs) that eat up all the farmland. Worse still, they're all over the place, reducing the chance of automated farming because large plots are divided into tiny ones.

Seriously needs to be some regulation, maybe some kind of resettlement policy into neat terrace house clusters located x km away from each other, along roads in a grid pattern

Main issue is that most young people don't want to become farmers when there are way better paying jobs in cities/towns. Over time this could result in food security problems if unchecked, especially in current geopolitical climate.

Chinese agriculture workforce is still too damn high (around 23% of the total workforce). The number of Chinese farmers and US citizens is almost equal. As a comparison, countries with similar GDPPc have a much lower agriculture workforce, usually around 10 to 15%.

Mechanization and automation is the way,

The key is automation/mechanisation which will only be possible with a land/resettlement policy.

Perhaps they could ban youngsters holding possession of their parents' rural homes once they pass away, that way in a generation or two the crappily located rural houses will disappear. Coupled with a voluntary 1-for-1 resettlement scheme to speed up the process (early birds given the best locations in the new planned towns)

Correct. However mechanisation is also coupled with urbanisation, so while you mechanise and dramatically increase farming efficiency, the other people left without work in farming should be able to go to cities to find work.

This is a complex matter. Also, as mechanisation is expensive it only works if you have a large field. So that means consolidating (buying) farmland from other farmers. There are some other models as well, like seeting up cooperatives

These are war preparations.
Let anglo chauvinists and white supremacists witness what they have wrought: the coming End of Days of the Anglosphere as a comprehensive national power.

and all it took was a bunch of racists in america LARPing as Metternicht/Bismark.

Incidentally, did you know Bannon calls his podcast "The War Room"? What a bunch of sad tossers.

Urbanization is also still weak compared to peer countries, only 60% urbanized. Indonesia which GDPPc is only a third of China is already 53%

China is already massively urbanisating but the population is just huge.

And there also issues with infrastructure and transportation bottlenecks plus pressure on the environment by clustering so many people together.

Better to delay and plan the urbanisation process correctly or you will become another India
