Yes, anyone who thought otherwise was naive... its all about keeping China down, not enough to limit Chinese apps from being used in US, but the goal is to completely kill off all successful Chinese firms/products, the US simply won't accept even the existence of TikTok even outside its borders... like Tom Cotton likes to say "give no quarter" etc...
Google and other US companies have already become bona fide sanctions arms of the US government... This is also a strategic part of the US information warfare against China (and against the world)

They want to preempt the possibility of WeChat catching on in EU or Africa etc as this might help adopt the China digital Yuan and compete with the Petrodollar hegemony. They are leveraging Google's dominant marketshare to enforce such a sanction.
this is an injustice. America is literally killing all Chinese companies while China can only protest when US sells weapons to Taiwan.
The large, unskilled workforce being beneficial to economic growth is a thing of the past. That is why countries like India and those in sub-saharan Africa will have an extremely difficult time even challenging China or the US for economic dominance in spite of their massive workforces.This is why I always give anwhenever anyone brings up demography and tries to use it to argue China's growth will be compromised. The trend of the future is very clearly automation, AI, and other technology making human labour redundant at an accelerating pace. "Demographic dividends" are really humanitarian catastrophes in the making; where are the expanding numbers of Indians and Nigerians going to find jobs?
None of the things the USA are doing is going to save there own economy, what with the bankruptcies, unemployment and social problems and all.
Kinda hilarious, the us won't force people to wear facemask that will save their lives but will ban a silly social app of people dancing to songs. This move just brings another generation suspicious of their own government and their freedom of association. Most likely it wouldnt hold up in court. Another alternative is that Huawei can push for the alternative app store that will have these "ban" apps.
Maybe it is an opportunity to push Huawei AppStore.
The only thing that can cause a people led government overthrow in China is if China's economy collapses.
