Accompanied by the rhythm of gongs and drums on Monday, acrobatic lion dancers in colorful costumes attempt to climb the sloping sides of a precarious pyramid of people and wooden desks stacked six meters above the ground in a courtyard of Aizhai town in Xiangxi autonomous prefecture, Hunan province.



Some of the dancers move swiftly upward. Others stop to perform breathtaking athletic feats for the audience below.



The show is part of what's known as the One Hundred Lion Gathering, a tradition of Miao people from Chongqing and the provinces of Hunan, Guizhou and Hubei. It's part of the ongoing celebration of Chinese New Year.



The gathering — called baishihui — is an intangible cultural heritage that includes singing, martial arts and lion dancing, as people of the Miao ethnic group wish for a year of prosperity and a good harvest.

Mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Bing Dwen Dwen has gone viral. Various kinds of merchandise featuring Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon have been produced. The ceramic dolls are made in Dehua, Quanzhou, east China's Fujian Province.

CHONGLI, Zhangjiakou, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's Qi Guangpu claimed the gold medal in men's aerials freestyle skiing at the Beijing Winter Olympics here on Wednesday.

Competing in his fourth Olympics, Qi collected 129.00 points to win China its seventh gold at the Games after his silver in the mixed team event.

As a cultural industry park, Beijing's Xitang Culture Innovation Park aims to showcase the charm of fine traditional Chinese culture using modern and artistic expressions such as through lighting, sculpture, and spatial design.

The custom of jumping over the bonfire, or Guohuohai in Chinese, is a folk celebration in Haikou in the 15th day of the first month in Chinese Lunar Calendar.

This winter, the Yunmeng Gorge Scenic Area in Beijing's Miyun district has become a hot spot for the capital's ice climbing enthusiasts.

One Saturday last month, more than 100 climbers were practicing on the area's ice formations. Yu Kaiyi, an ice climbing promoter who was responsible for designing the artificially enhanced formations in Yunmeng, said they were mostly members of ice climbing clubs at Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University and the Beijing Institute of Technology.

According to Yu, ice climbing is still a niche pastime in China, which is why he is trying to popularize the sport.
