As the Chinese New Year approaches, over 150 lantern craftsmen from southwest China's Sichuan Province are busy creating and assembling lantern displays at the China Railway Qingdao World Expo City in the Xihai'an (West Coast) New Area of Qingdao, east China's Shandong province.





The Qingdao Spring Festival Lantern Art Festival will feature more than 50 large lantern displays, including themes such as "Peacock Welcoming Guests," "Good Luck in the Year of the Snake," "Loong Soaring China," "Fortune and Good Luck," "Phoenix Singing in Qingdao," and "Blooming Prosperity." The lantern exhibition will open to the public on the day of the Little New Year (a week before Chinese New Year) and continue throughout the Spring Festival holiday, attracting tourists and boosting cultural and tourism consumption.

The drama and rhythmic beauty of Chinese opera has been vividly depicted in the paintings of modern artists like Guan Liang and Lin Fengmian, to some extent breathing new life into traditional culture in the 20th century.



Efforts to protect and revive opera have intensified in recent years, and now, designers are also doing their part.





Glamorous Chinese Operas is an exhibition of creative products inspired by the tradition, such as postcards, calendars and tea sets. Running in Beijing until the end of February, it has been mounted to commemorate the establishment of the Community of the Inheritance and Creative Development of Operatic Art, a national alliance of schools, cultural institutions and businesses committed to the preservation of traditional opera through educational programs and the creative industry.
