Tuesday was a doubly lucky day for Li Yafei, a young woman from Shandong province.

Not only did she visit the National Museum of China in Beijing for the first time and purchase the popular coronet magnet — a souvenir available in the museum's gift shop that is often sold out — but she was also the millionth to buy one since it first went on sale in mid-July last year.

To her surprise and excitement, Li was presented with a "1 million record magnet" certificate by the museum's creativity product team in front of media, visitors, and long lines of people queuing to buy one of their own.

The magnet is available in two varieties, one in wood and the other in metal. It is fashioned after a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) coronet worn by the empress at imperial ceremonies. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

Dounan Flower Market located in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan province, has seen an increase of tourists from home and abroad as the vibrant flowers attract visitors to Asia's largest flower trading market.

Peking Duck, a representative cuisine of Beijing, has won popularity across the world for its golden, crispy skin and juicy, flavorful meat. Set up by Yang Quanren in 1864 in Beijing, "Quanjude", a time-honored brand for Peking duck, has become a must-go for visitors from both home and abroad. In 2008, Quanjude's craft of making Peking Duck was listed in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritages.

The cooking craft of Peking Duck, which has been passed down for seven generations in Quanjude, is mainly used in two steps, preparation and roasting.

To ensure the quality of its duck, Quanjude only chooses a type of local ducks which are fed and raised in a special way so that the proportion of the fat in the duck meat is strictly under control. During the roasting procedure, Quanjude uses wood from hard fruit trees and open fire to get a better taste. Meanwhile, the chef will also use a long stick to turn and move the duck from time to time according to his experience, making sure the duck is heated evenly.

Dance drama Thunderstorm gave two performances at Beijing's Poly Theatre on March 29 and 30. [All Photos provided to chinadaily.com.cn]




Following its premiere in Shanghai last July, dance drama Thunderstorm embarked on its first nationwide tour, visiting six cities — Nanjing, Suzhou and Yangzhou in Jiangsu province, Wuhan in Hubei province, Changsha in Hunan province, and Zhengzhou in Henan province.




As the dance drama is a stage rendition of playwright Cao Yu's eponymous classic play, a special commemorative edition of the dance drama made its Beijing debut on March 29, with two performances from March 29 to 30 at Poly Theatre.

A folk-song festival will take place in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Monday, drawing nearly 200 singers from art troupes across the country, including the China National Opera House, the China National Opera and the Dance Drama Theater, and the China National Traditional Orchestra.




In addition, singers will also perform through song competitions and call-and-response singing, showcasing the unique charm of folk music from various regions of China.
