With the coming of harvest season, Changchun Movie Wonderland in Changchun, Jilin province, created a fantastical pumpkin art kingdom using pumpkins and reeds so that residents and tourists can enjoy the autumn landscape.

Dozens of artists from across the country were invited to create props for the first Pumpkin Festival with nearly 40 varieties and around 200,000 pumpkins.

Visitors can marvel at the Pumpkin Bus, which symbolizes the joy of the harvest; the giant panda beloved by children; the educational corridor, which showcases pumpkin knowledge; the pumpkin houses displaying different types of pumpkins; or one of many meticulously designed pumpkin photo spots.

The festival will run until Nov 10.

After the event, the pumpkins will be collected to recycle into feed or otherwise reused to avoid waste, the park said.

China's toy industry is embedded with huge business opportunities as reflected by the enthusiasm of both children and adults.

At the 2024 China Toy Expo in Shanghai, visitors can see 17 categories of toy products, including fashion and collectible toys, educational toys, wooden/bamboo toys and board game cards, fully demonstrating the new level of industrial development.

The three-day event, running from Oct 16 to 18, attracts more than 2,500 toy companies from home and abroad to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

Toys not only entertain people, be a symbol of good feelings or memories but can also be educational with huge hidden business opportunities to explore as showcased at the 2024 China International Fair for Trade in Services in Beijing.

The eighth China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo packed in a big audience on its opening day in Jinan, East China's Shandong province, on Thursday.

The expo, running until Monday, is hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and undertaken by the Shandong Culture and Tourism Department and the Jinan government.

The expo is themed on protection, inheritance and innovation, highlighting the integration of intangible culture with modern life.

Major sectors showcase craftsmanship, innovation, rural development and creative arts in related fields.

A total of 211 intangible cultural heritage items are on display and more than 100 inheritors are present to interact with attendees.

The expo aims to showcase the achievements of China's intangible cultural heritage protection over the past 20 years since it joined the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Additionally, performances and workshops are arranged for the public to appreciate the charm of cultural heritage.

Related brand launches and business matchmaking events are also taking place to boost exchange and cooperation.

In monasteries and villages along the Longwu River basin in northwest China’s Qinghai Province, Buddhist monks and folk artists of the Tibetan and Tu ethnic groups carry on the plastic arts of painting thangka and murals, crafting patchwork barbola and sculpting known collectively as the Regong arts. Thangka painting is the most representative among them.



Characterized by a distinctively Tibetan Buddhist religion style and unique regional features, the Regong arts embody the spiritual history and traditional culture of the region and remain an integral part of the artistic life of people there today.

According to legend, during the tumultuous years of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (907-960) period in the 10th century, a monk could be seen wandering about carrying a hemp sack, which is called a budai in Chinese.



Known as a result as Monk Budai, he visited Fenghua in today's Ningbo in Zhejiang province, to spread Buddhism and before he died, he revealed that he was the manifestation of the Maitreya (or future) Buddha.



Since then, Budai has become widely worshipped, and is depicted as having a potbelly and laughing, making him a symbol of joy and optimism. He is also referred to as the "Laughing Buddha", or Mi Le, in Chinese.
