A wedding dress fashion show featuring 110 senior male and female models was recently staged in Yubei district, Southwest China's Chongqing. All of the models were over 50, with the eldest being 79.

"I never expected to see a group of my peers over 50 being so confident and glamorous," said Wang Cuilan, a senior guest. "I see their love and passion for life. It is a great show."

"Many women, including my mother, never had the chance to wear a wedding dress when they were young, although they longed to do it very much," said Mao Yuanyuan, general manager of Chongqing Muqing Fashion Education Co, the sponsor. "So I'm putting on this show for them."

Participants from different cities and prefectures of Guizhou, as well as the 10 districts of Guiyang, donned signature costumes of their respective ethnic groups and formed 29 phalanxes. They marched along the route decorated with three parade-themed installations featuring Guizhou's ethnic culture, historical heritage, fashion of different periods, and tourism characteristics.

Director Jia reflected on the profound impact of Lei's story on the creative team, emphasizing their year-long journey in crafting the musical.

Backed by the support of the Beijing Culture and Arts Fund, this production, helmed by directors Jia Ding and Wei Sijia, features over 30 original Chinese songs penned by Wang Yiwa and He Qi. The musical weaves a compelling tale that pays homage to Lei Feng, a symbol of altruism and humility in Chinese society.

Renowned scriptwriter Zhang Heping, known for his work on the award-winning film The Days Without My Comrade depicting Lei's story, was invited by Jia to serve as the artistic director of the musical. Zhang expressed his hopes that through this production, a new generation of audiences will rediscover Lei's inspirational tale, ensuring that the legacy of this beloved young soldier endures for years to come.

On Wednesday, Cheung Chau, a small island south of Hong Kong island, was chock-a-block with people celebrating the Bun Festival, an annual traditional cultural event in the city.

At 1:30 pm local time, the "piu sik" parade, one of the highlights of the Bun Festival, with children dressing up as deities and celebs on stilts, set off from Cheung Chau's Pak Tai Temple.

Accompanied by the sound of gongs and drums, the young actors waved and handed out sweets to the crowd, attracting many to take pictures.​

"I hope Hong Kong can organize more activities to promote traditional culture," said Hong Kong resident Ms Ho who watched the parade every year.

Another Hong Kong resident who preferred to be named as Kwok, who is also an owner of a bakery selling buns symbolizing peace and well-being, started bun making workshops last September to promote the Bun Festival and has attracted around 20,000 people to join.
