The annual tone-setting Central Economic Work Conference vowed to vigorously boost consumption, improve investment efficiency, and expand domestic demand on all fronts next year.
While the country used to rely on investment and exports for economic expansion, consumption has increasingly played a predominant role in recent years under its strategy of advancing a "dual-circulation" development pattern, which takes the domestic market as the mainstay while allowing domestic and international markets to reinforce each other.
In the first three quarters of 2024, consumption contributed 49.9 percent of the country's economic growth, substantially surpassing investment and exports, which accounted for 26.3 percent and 23.8 percent, respectively.

A street dance show and a competition initiated by the China Oriental Street Dance Group were held in Beijing on Dec 21.
The show invited dancers from home and abroad to present a dance gala. Around 500 young dancers from across the country participated in a youth group dance competition.

In the show and the competition, dancers showcased the distinct characters of various dance styles, including breaking, popping, locking, hip-hop, waacking and jazz. Many dancers adopted elements of Chinese traditional dance styles and Chinese kung fu into their choreography, and some narrated stories from Chinese mythology and history, such as the classic novel Journey to the West and story of Hua Mulan.

National Ballet of China staged Ballet Workshop 15th Anniversary Gala in Beijing on Dec 26. [All Photos provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
The Ballet Workshop 15th Anniversary Gala was held in Beijing on Thursday, marking the 65th birthday of the National Ballet of China.
The annual event has supported young choreographers and dancers, offering a platform for them to grow, according to Feng Ying, director and artistic director of the National Ballet of China. She notes that so far the workshop has brought 88 original works by more than 40 choreographers.

The National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing celebrated the 17th anniversary of its inauguration with an Open Day Festival on Dec 22 by hosting 15 performances and more than 50 cultural activities at its three sites — the NCPA, the Beijing Performing Arts Centre and the NCPA Taihu Stage Art Centre.
Themed "Art for the People, Three Locations in Same Splendor", the festival offered free admission to all visitors. People could book online for morning and afternoon sessions at the NCPA and NCPA Taihu Stage Art Centre, and a morning session at the Beijing Performing Arts Centre.
The open day also featured flash mob dance performances, a jazz quartet, a children's choir, a book market, a cultural creative merchandise market and demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage craftsmanship in the NCPA's public areas.
