The festival includes Wushu, Health Qigong, Go (Weiqi) and Dragon and Lion Dance, attracting contestants from 27 countries and regions. A team from Malaysia Johor Loong & Lion Dance Sport Association led by Chan Hong Kin won two gold medals in Dragon Dance Category.

Chan Hong Kin, 52, has been a member of the team for more than 30 years. He hopes that through the festival in Kunming, the team members from Malaysia can not only show their skills, but also deepen friendship with Chinese people.

"I first came to China in 1999," Chan Hong Kin said, "After the competition, we will go to Lufeng City to visit some old friends. I'm also looking forward to seeing more new Chinese friends in Malaysia."

This year marks the 50th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, which promote more people-to-people exchanges in traditonal culture field. (Xinhua/Chen Xinbo)

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The 2024 Los Angeles Lantern Art Expo was launched Wednesday evening, showcasing Chinese traditional culture with more than 60 sets of lantern displays, cultural performances and Chinese cuisine.



A total of 66 sets of lanterns are on display at the expo, featuring themes including the Great Tang Dynasty, 12 Chinese zodiac animals, prehistoric dinosaurs, and holidays such as Halloween and Christmas.



"Today, as we light up the lanterns here, we once again highlight the tremendous potential and continued efforts of China and the United States to foster cultural and tourism exchanges," said Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles Guo Shaochun at the opening ceremony of the event.



Lantern art is a good expression of Chinese traditional culture, carrying both deep cultural significance and aesthetic beauty, Guo said.


"Every lantern represents the exquisite craftsmanship of Chinese artisans and reflects the shared aspirations of Chinese people around the world for a bright and prosperous future," he noted.

"The expo is essential to bring us together to celebrate the contributions of immigrants to this country while highlighting our wonderful Chinese culture," said U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu while addressing the opening ceremony.

The expo, held in the Santa Anita Park in Los Angeles, ran from Oct. 18 to Nov. 17.

This year's exhibition area has expanded by 33 percent from last year to 140,000 square meters. It includes eight major sections, including international brands, renowned kilns and artistic ceramics.

Over 1,100 exhibitors are showcasing products from international brands, traditional kilns, and local Jingdezhen ceramic enterprises and art studios.

With an emphasis on integrated development in trade, investment, and culture, the event features international brands from 12 countries, including Japan, Germany and the United States.

To foster innovation, the expo has also enlarged its zone for entrepreneurship and innovation to provide a platform for young artists and local entrepreneurs.

The large Ro-Pax ferry GNV Polaris was delivered to Italian shipping company Grandi Navi Veloci on Thursday.

The new NGV Polaris will have a gross tonnage of approximately 46,000 tons, a length of 218 meters, a width of 29.60 meters and will be able to reach a maximum speed of 25 knots. It will have 239 cabins and a cargo capacity of 1,500 passengers and 3,100 linear meters.
