Xiamen, Fujian province, launched a top-level emergency response after part of the city was flooded by a heavy rainstorm on Monday, with some classes suspended and many flights affected, the city's flood control authorities said.
The intense rain - the product of warm and humid air flow - deluged the coastal city from 10 am to 1 pm on Monday, with precipitation of up to 21 centimeters in some places, the Xiamen Meteorological Bureau said.

On Tuesday, Jiang Naijun visited the local children welfare house in Changchun, capital of Jilin province, and donated 10,000 yuan ($1,571) to the children there.
Jiang, 98, who started a small supermarket last year called 97, donates all her income to the public.
In fact, this was the second time for the senior to start a business. Her first was at the age of 66.
After retirement in the late 1980s, she set up an arts and crafts company which has developed into a famous enterprise, producing escutcheons for well-known brands.
"It was really hard at that time, but we persisted and achieved success," she said. "Now the company develops quite well under the management of my son and I want to do more for society."
"It's never too old to start your dream," she added.

Wang Qiao, an official from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said the satellite can detect inland water, land surface environment and altered minerals, providing reliable data for China's environmental monitoring, resource exploration, and disaster prevention and mitigation.

World's first Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit system, or ART, on Tuesday officially entered a trial operation phase that will last for three months in Zhuzhou in Central China's Hunan province.
This shows the capability of China Railway Rolling Stock Corp of commercializing its independently developed ART system since its debut in October 2017.
The smart bus, developed by the research arm of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co Ltd, is about 30 meters long and equipped with sensors that can read the dimensions of roads and plan its route. It has a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour.
The 3-kilometer A1 test line has set up four stops. Passengers can scan a QR code to receive an electric ticket and take a ride.

Xu Zixuan, 26, used to study music in Singapore. When she returned to China in March last year, her passion for the game drove her to work at a claw doll grabber machine store. "It's kind of destiny," she said.
Her daily routine consist of cleaning the store, checking the machines and replenishing them. Although her work may be a bit tedious, however, working with different kinds of dolls makes Zixuan happy.
On her day off, Zixuan grabs dolls at the store as a customer. She has too many doll trophies at home. "When I succeed after several attempts, the sense of elation fills me with happiness."
