When I was a kid we lived in a two family home from '62 to '67. The garage had been converted into a unlicensed beauty shop.

We lived in a duplex on Naha AB, Okinawa,, the neighbor kid, Jeffrey Lupton was a supposed evil genious, he burnt down our "Indian tent" that we had received for Christmas,, My brother and I floated our toy Tug-Boats on the living room floor during our first Typhoon, my Mom's solid cherry desk was scooted in front of the door to prevent it from blowing away..

I can very vaguely remember days and days of heavy rain, sideways rain and howling wind and vibrating our house.. LOL

Our shop was licensed and we still have the "Station and dryer chair" set up, LOL,,, we will not move that to our new house, the "Honey Badger" is now "teller supervisor" at our bank.

Those "Water Buffalo" are closely related to the "Cape Buffalo", one of the most, if not the most dangerous animals on the planet,, a wounded "Cape Buffalo" will charge, knock you down, and stomp you into mush!

"Water Buffalo" on the other hand are used for agricultural work, kinda like a 4 wheel drive tractor!

I think humanity needs to be reminded of and be connected with our more brutal and rustic past, especially as we further develop into the virtual realm. Without these reminders, we can become detached to nature and reality itself, and also take things for granted. Cruel it maybe but it reminds us that we too are part of the natural ecosystem. Personally I prefer less cruel forms of reminders, maybe I am missing out on the experiential learning aspect. Often I find bullfighting and similar sports too cruel and outdated, but then I realise it is perhaps just my upbringing and modern conditioning.

I remember there was a report on a class project in Japan where school children were instructed to raise a pig. The pig was then slaughtered and prepared into a meal for the children. It was cruel but an accurate reflection of reality. Maybe we should all think twice before indulging in the mentality of consumption. Obesity and the mentality of consumption can thank the modern industrial food system and the detachment between consumer and food source it creates.

An aerial photo taken on March 17, 2018 shows "Deep Pit Hotel" in Shanghai's Songjiang District under construction. Photography fan Wang Xichun, 73, shows his self-made large format camera. Wang began to make large format cameras ten years ago as he was interested in them. He said he originally knew nothing about camera-making and saw different parts only as toy blocks. But now he has made five large format cameras and also enjoys the traditional photography process, including developing photos in a dark room. A large format camera allows shift and tilt movements and better rendering of perspective, in order to create special effects that would be impossible with a conventional camera. (Photo/VCG)
