Re: Chinese Daily Life in Photos & News!

wow a live crab vending machine! and i thought only japan had crazy/weird vending machines

When I was stationed in Japan back in 73 & 74 they had vending machines along the streets that dispensed all sorts of alcohol products.. and drugs. At one time amphetamines were an legal over the counter drug in Japan and were sold in vending machines everywhere. No kidding.

"In the rat race that is keeping up with the Joneses, people forget about the most precious parts of life, such as spending time with families."
Maybe the Chinese government should think about allowing Chinese parents to have normal families...you know, like the rest of the world does with siblings and all. People with multiple kids are going to be more family-oriented and less job-oriented. I worry that China will turn into Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore where people are under-sexed, unloved workaholics married to their job.

I don't worry but I agree with you. I observed this workaholic behavior when I was stationed in Japan 36 years ago.

China's one child per family policy is producing generations of spoiled children. And also there is a growing shortage of females. I read that some Chinese men are turning to Foreign wives.

Re: Chinese Daily Life in Photos & News!

So what did YOU use those Over-the-counter amphetamines for?
:D

I did not..but I do know guys that did to keep awake when they had duty. One of the things the USN told us about Japan was that a person could buy "speed" over the counter and at vending machines. Of course they told us not to purchase said speed. But guess what? Sailors bought it anyway.

XICHANG, Sichuan, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched an orbiter into space from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern Sichuan Province at 4:20 a.m. Beijing Time Saturday.

It was the seventh orbiter that China has launched for its independent satellite navigation and positioning network, also known as Beidou, or Compass system.

It is the 136th flight for the country's Long March series of rockets.

The new satellite, launched on a Long March-3A carrier rocket, joins six other satellites already in orbit to form a network, which will eventually consist of more than 30 satellites.

China started building its own satellite navigation system to end its dependence upon the U.S. GPS system in 2000, when it sent two orbiters as a double-satellite experimental positioning system.

Beidou, as the system is called, is designed to provide navigation, time and short message services in the Asia and Pacific region before 2012 and will be capable of providing global navigation services by 2020.

This man is begging for money for food, and I notice that the writing also mention if any "good hearted people" (don't know the correct translation to english) will buy him a transportation ticket. When I see this it makes me heartbroken to see this.

Also for the lawer who said that he was chased. Thankgod he is alive and spoken to the media so that Beijing police force will start investigating. The kid that ran over the victim is probably a victim of prince symdrome. How could you be so stupid. If you Dad is an official you don't threaten them by saying their name. This is an age of internet and also media coverage (if not controlled by the district) will instantly broadcast this.
