YINCHUAN, June 2, 2016 (Xinhua) -- Farm workers from southwest China's Guizhou Province, carry their children on their backs while working in the Guinan Village Vegetable Base in Changxin Town of Helan County, northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, May 31, 2016. In recent years, Ningxia has constructed 24 vegetable bases supplying vegetables for Hong Kong. Presently, those bases supply Chinese kale, Guangdong cabbage and some other varieties, which meet people's tastes in south China. The vegetables are transported with cold chain from Ningxia to Hong Kong, to keep their freshness. The vegetable bases provided nearly 20,000 jobs for farm workers from China's southwestern provinces like Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan to make up the shortage of local labour market. Also, children of these migrant workers stream into local vegetable bases to live with their parents who are allowed to take them to work. "I didn't mean it but had no choice. It's not allowed to take kids to work in the factories at my hometown. That's why I came here, making money while looking after my kid. I plan to go back home when the kid is old enough for school," farm worker Yang Yong from Xingyi City of Guizhou Province said. There are more than 400 farm workers like Yang Yong from Xingyi and Anshun City, Guizhou, to pick up vegetables in the Guinan Village Vegetable Base in Changxin Town of Helan County, Ningxia, together with over 100 young children. Kids are so happy to stay with parents and play around vegetable plots, but the farmers worry about whether their kids can play safely when they are at work. In order to solve the problem, local government has set up daycare centers for the kids of migrant workers near the vegetabel bases to ensure their safety and provide them professional early education.
