Man if I ever ran into her in life and she gave me that look. I might as well just throw my hands in the air and give her my wallet and checkbook, just be mine!:eek:

Well Equation, you better have scores of $ millions, because my guess is low double-digit millions probably wouldn't impress that lassie.

Such an accident isn't the first and won't be the last in China. They renew the wall but didn't replace the "antique" roof!
I hope the roof fell when school was out and no one was hurt. So, what's the root cause? Poor building codes? Inadequately trained inspectors? Corrupt officials paid to look the other way? All of the above?

No. sorry..read the caption;

Photos taken on March 4, 2014 shows a collapse scene in a kindergarten in Xinyang, central China's Henan Province. The roof of a kindergarten in central China's Henan Province collapsed early on Tuesday morning, killing one child and injuring three others, local authorities said. (Xinhua/He Zhengquan)

As for the cause.. Equation might have an idea.

As the caption states; it killed one child and injured 3 others. Poor children! Judging from the appearance of the building, I guess it is at least 50 years old and it doesn't have steel frame. One thing I must point out (which may hurt most Chinese), that the Chinese people are generally very good in doing business but because of that, they only care about their profit but not their consumers' benefit.

Tks Popeye for the Chinese Workboats laying submarine cables. The Chinese are always known to be very good boat builders even before Adm Zen He's famous 7 Voyages to S.E. Asia & to Somalia & Mecca in the 15th Century. Now they can build not only commercial vessels (the cheapest in the world), but also warships etc. at their yards. That's why the PLA Defense Budget is low compared to the US in $$$ terms. Although quality not tested yet in naval battle situations, we must be surprised about their effectiveness.

You don't necessary need steel trusses for rood structures, wood trusses are used everywhere you just need adequate support with proper engineering. Apparently this is an older building and it seems to me according to the pictures that the roof rafters has been poorly supported by the ridge beam. My condolences to those parents who lost their children.
