This is sad, apparently some of them did it because of a gambling debt that they can't repay. Here's a quote from the article:

"I'm married and have a 22-month-old son," said a 28-year-old KTV girl who was starting her third day at the club and gave her name as Luo. "My husband doesn't know I work here, nor do my parents." Luo said her route into prostitution had begun in the casinos of Macau where she racked up debts of nearly £80,000.
"I have no other option. I will leave this place after I earn 20,000 or 30,000 yuan and I'll probably return to the casino to try and win it back."

What? Going back to the casino try to win back some previous debt, meanwhile risking her lives with potential HIV and her marriage all because the lure of quick riches.

In this March 22, 2013 photo, a recruitment officer teaches a new soldier how to handle applicants at a recruitment center in Taipei, Taiwan. A Taiwanese plan to end mandatory military service and shift to an all-volunteer force is running into a problem: Not enough volunteers. Such forces are generally considered superior to conscripted ones, because those serving want to be there. Recruitment is proving difficult in a prosperous society that offers young people alternatives and doesn't glorify military service. (AP Photo/Wally Santana)
