After being in operation for 16 years, a 724-meter viaduct was demolished in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu province, on Saturday night. (Source: China Daily / Zhao Jie)

Within seconds on Saturday night, a controlled explosion turned a 724-meter viaduct in downtown Nanjing into rubble.

About 2,600 holes had been drilled in the viaduct's 57 supports, which tumbled like falling dominoes.

The demolition was carried out for the construction of a tunnel to alleviate traffic pressure, according to the Nanjing urban planning bureau.

To guarantee local residents' safety, nearly 2,500 people living near the viaduct were evacuated from their homes. Another 3,900 were asked not to go out during the explosion.

More than 1,100 police officers were sent to the scene, and traffic control was implemented two hours before the explosion.

I see a teddy bear on the urinal. I assume the toilet fixtures doesn't work, so no mess and no restroom smell, but where does the family do their business then at the hotel public restrooms?

Wonder why they don't simply remove those urinal since they aren't used. I've been hearing emigrant to the West living in rest room but it is the first time I hear people in China also live in rest room.

LOL...no my friend it's not a camera above that urinal. It's the water supply pipe connecting supposedly to the flushing mechanism of the fixture.

My thoughts exactly, unless the couple likes to use it as some sort of shelf. It still looks new, I would disassemble it from the wall and sell it and replace it with a real hand made shelf instead.:D
