A man is accused of stealing a credit card from a hit-run victim as she lay dead on the street, Hamilton Police say.
Jiao Shi Qi, 20, was struck Sept. 18, 2011, around 2:30 a.m. by a vehicle while crossing Main St. E. near Catherine St. S. in Hamilton. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The impact sent her personal items flying several metres down the street, police said Monday, noting they were not found during the investigation of the collision.
Police continued to pursue the items, which included the victim’s purse and wallet, and credit cards belonging to both her and her boyfriend.
Their search led them to arrest a Hamilton man Jan. 3 at his home.
Jason Dave Trotter, 29, is charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, theft under $5,000 and possession under $5,000. He was released on a promise to appear.
