Well...the hoods on these bachelors are not as elaborate as the Master's and doctorate one. And the PhD gowns and cap are more elaborate as well to separate them from the rest.

I guessed you have never heard of my dream lady Miss WEN XIA YU before? She won Miss World beauty pageant back in 2012. Now as far as Miss Universe, I don't think there hasn't been any yet.

Well, when I was getting my PhD, we weren't even allowed to put on the hood ourselves. We put on the gown and cap but had to hold the hood in our hands. The day before the actual graduation ceremony, we had a hooding ceremony, where my advisor put the hood around my neck on stage when the Dean called "Dr. Vesicles". That's when we were allowed to actually wear the hood over the gown. Then the next day, we got our actual diploma.

One lesson learned. Don't graduate in the summer if you had a choice. Like you said, those PhD gowns are so elaborate with layers of shoulder pads and scarf and such that it's like a wearing a sheep. And guys have to also wear suits underneath... And Rice university holds the graduation ceremony in the courtyard under 100 deg heat and 99-100% humidity. I was drenched afterwards.
