Chinese cars, and cars driven on Chinese soil

Chinese cars are mostly econ cars, both standard size and the Asian midget. (So narrow you can't find it here in America(unless you go to the right universities.), you can't fit 3 people across)

China does make Luxury cars (Chery has 1, it's a old Lexus ES copy. Jinbei has Zhonghua, but Jinbei isn't coming yet apparently.), but there are nearly no performance cars. And I know what you mean, and I will say, from what I know, I wouldn't want a Chinese car, at least not those that are coming here.

What'd you mean? The company or the car?
The QQ is said to be a copy of the Spark and Daewoo...somthing (Matiz?)
As for the Hongqi part, I wouldn't be surprised, China is full of old VW taxis.
But who knows, Hongqi's designs haven't been up to date at all. Their cars are at least 2 generations behind. And cars from the 1980s all look the same, all are boxes. boring........

boxes? Can you say, VOLVO?

Anyway, I was back in China during 04's summer, and I went to a car dealership. A Buick Regal (which is a bit different from the Regal here, although same body) costs a lot of money. By a lot I mean somewhere in the 40k USD range.

At present, the biggest auto company is "first auto" which cooperated with Volkswagen\Toyota\Mazda. It has own brand "RedFlag" and "JieFang".it can produce 1million cars per year.
the Second biggese auto company is "shanghai auto company" which cooperated with GM\Volkswagen, it can produce about 1million cars.Resently it purchase a South Korea auto company.
the third one is "chery" which is a independent company, it has own brand .it can produce 0.5million cars per year.

Hongqi and Jiefang are both under First auto? I thought Hongqi owns First Auto......... Geez, if I need a truck, then I would probably check it out. (Though I 'd probably end up buying a Tacoma or Avalache. :D)

Shanghai Auto Company? What's the brand of the cars they make? And which car company did they bought, if you know? Daewoo hasn't been great, but Hyundai/Kia and Ssong Yang (sorry if mispelled) are booming, don't know about the rest though.
Chery? Hah!

And what's wrong w/ Volvo? Tanks keep good shape. You aren't telling me the new Volvos are boxy are you?

Both Hongqi and Jiefang are brands owned by FAW.

Shanghai Auto Company doesn't have its own brand. They only make VW cars and some brands of GM.

FAW also makes Audi and VW (Golf and Polo). The new generation Hongqi introduced in the late 1990s is basically a copy of the Audi A4. They are now making Audi A6 too.

Shanghai was bidding for the british car maker MG Rover but failed. However, they still managed to puchase the core technology of Rover 75, though not the brand.

=.=""" Great........... Audis and VW are great cars. (Even though I have never felt a compassion for them.) But can't they make anything else.........

Shanghai didn't get MG, but Nanjing did..................and MG is coming to America!!!!!! (in 2008?)

The news about Chery, Jili or Jifan coming however, hasn't been heard much.

MG-Rover Saga

Shanghia Auto bought the intelectual rights to Rover cars I.E the designs, tooling etc. Nanging bought the MG name and production facilities at Longbridge. A recent development saw FORD buy the Rover name to prevent any other company using the Rover brand name. Both Chinese companies have plans based on and around the old platforms.
