This is allegedly either the gunner's or commander's night vision sight for Type-96A, not sure which.

When tanks fly.

I remember that CCTV mentioning that the 96B went as fast as 75km/h. Did it install a new 1200hp engine or something?

Since this biathlon is becoming something like the Formula 1, Russia should formalize rules about the allowable parameters of the tank (engine power limits, minimum weight, etc.) Since the ZTZ-96B doesn't look like it's entering frontline service, I'd like to see it spin off into a race tank.

I doubt it. I think the PLA simply have extra requirements for 96B that is still in the process of reaching those requirements. This year, the 96B was actually from the Northern Military District. All the 96B that went to the previous biathlons are units from the Western Military District.

So, could the 96B still enter service? when you say northern district, you are refering to the crews, right?

No, it's still the old 1000hp engine. With the 1200hp engine, it could go up to 85km/h. The Russian T72B3M has a 1130hp engine and it went as fast as 82km/h.

But i assume that 96B is lighter. Otherwise, it would end up last.

Both the crews and the equipment (96B tanks) are from a Heavy Combined Armed Brigade from the Northern Military District.
