Any rumors on PLA making a C-5 or AN-124 equivalent plane? They bought plans for the AN-225 and then nothing.
AN-225 second unfinished unit deal signed in 2016 and plane will roll out from assembly line in 2019.. this was the actual plan but USA intervened and Ukraine government scrapped the agreement.

during Zhuhai airshow 2016
''Zhu Qian, head of AVIC's large aircraft development office, previously told China Daily that more than 1,000 Y-20s and its civilian variants will be needed, explaining that this figure was calculated based on the experience of the United States and Russia, as they have used heavy-lift transport aircraft for many years.
In addition, China will develop transport jets that are even larger than the Y-20, like the US' Lockheed C-5 Galaxy and former Soviet Union's Antonov An-225 Mriya, according to Zhu.''
this official statement from AVIC itself indicate, there was strong desire for this type of aircraft back then.. i guess lack of Engines put hold on this project.

now back to 2024, there is no authentic news or information regarding super large strategic airlifter. there are some rumors but not authentic. does PLAAF need AN-124/C-5 equivalent ?? definitely.. but is it urgent ?? nope
It's possible PLA could make a bigger transport aircraft by enlarging and stretching the Y-20 and putting 3 WS-20 under each wing.
if this project come into reality, then Engines will be WS-20's successor.. WS-20 engines are not capable to lift such a large plane. this machine is only exclusive for Y-20 aircraft.
