China's transport, tanker & heavy lift aircraft

MiG-29

Banned Idiot
An 124 and C5 are true stategic lifters out sizing C17 and il76 but the CX,KC390 and A400m lack the lift capasity of modern disaster releaf or troop rapid deployment. In example look at France who are barrowing rides to Mali on RAF, NATO & USAF C17's

What i meant aircraft are made with a niche upon commercial an economic needs, i do not think Europe can not build a larger aircraft than A-400M when they can build A-380s and trent-900 engines.
That is why i said the article is a bit unaccurate.

Specially when MotorSich is Ukranian and An-124 a joint venture Russian-Ukranian with Antonov having all the rights upon An-124.

I meant is not lack of capability of other nations but lack of market.
The C-X is quiet large, it belies its size, i can carry up to 70-80% of what a C-17 can.

However Japan did not design it larger because lack of technology but simply lack of need.

but okay that was only my opinion.

No doubt cargo planes are made to meet the needs of the end customer, A400 was built to what Europe needs for now and the decades to come, if they required to lift a MBT they would have designed it too simple

C17 Globemaster as powerful as it is still can only lift one Abram tank, and the older C5 Galaxy which was designed in the 1960s can lift 2 tanks, simply because back during the Cold War Ameircan requirment was to transport materials quickly to battlefields in Europe against any Soviet invasion

China has designed Y-20 to lift a fully capable battle ready MBT, otherwise it would never have such a heavy lift capability, I mean 66 tons is a massive weight

A Y-20 could easily accommodate more than 100 paratroopers which will give China the option a establish a airborne divisions like the 101st

When they say that Y-20 outperforms Il-76, are they talking about existing configurations, since Y-20 have not even test fly yet, or assuming designed goals with domestic engines.

The current assumption is that Y-20 is similar in most aspects to the Il-76 due to the use of same engine type, but Y-20 is made with a wider body that'd give it more cargo space, carrying cargo size that previously not possible for the PLAAF.

At least that is certain and agreed by most, other aspects such as avionics and materials are still open to debate, and very likely won't be reveal to the public for at least 5 more years - the projected R&D cycle for the large-body jet liner and air lifter (i.e. Y-20) is 15 years, and in the 5th year we're looking at this...

That should be the expected performance of the Y-20 in its optimum configuration, notably with the more powerful engines which are still under development.

Unless the R&D and flight test teams forgo their Chinese New Year holidays, if you don't see it doing high-speed taxiing test by Feb 2nd, wait till early March.
