Wow, WS-20 must be pretty close to entering service already if they're putting it on two separate airframes
yes. serial production of WS-20 has already begun. so Xian has increased the production capacity of Y-20.

WS-20 is in great demand. it is first time China produced high bypass turbofan engine. it will expand like WS-10 family. improved/advance variant currently under development.

I wonder if it could be adapted for commercial use in the unlikely event of western sanctions on airplane engines

What are the differences between military and commercial high bypass engines?

Also, are there any estimates on the production capacity?

Shenyang aero engine institute offered WS-20 engine to COMAC for C919 but they rejected. coz Civilian aero planes need sophisticated engine , highest level of fuel consumption is the biggest parameter.

WS-20 bypass ratio is only 6. which is very bad for civilian aircraft. means engine will consume more fuel. so COMAC rejected. which is fine

AECC developed CJ-1000A for C919, which has bypass ratio of 10 and have more advance components.
