The Idea is not that far fetched. The US has been looking into such. The Ability to deploy Special operations forces behind Enemy lines is a major one in Modern warfare but the Proliferation of Air space denial systems means that it is increasingly limited.
The StealthHawks used in the Raid that killed UBL represented one manor of trying to get around such but Medium lift Helicopters limit the size and equipment of a SF team.
A larger fixed wing option would solve that but there is a obvious limitation involved, A transport the Size of a C17 is not going to stealth very well. Short of a Romulan Cloaking device There is a limitation on just how big you can stealth. A craft like say the size a A400M may be able to have lob observable features but there is another factor here which is that these would have to be built into the bird not added on... Again barring a Cloaking device, A Stealth Y-X or C-X would need to have stealthy features from day Zero of design. The Structure of most transport planes are designed for Air efficiency not low observability. Exposed Engine turbines, sling nacelles, tubular bodies large T or vertical stabilizers with 90* to horizontal tail surfaces High mounted wings with 90* angles to the Fuselage, All well known RCS hot spots.
