I was very suprised by the advanced shapes, and technologies of the actual Y-20. Before, I thought it will look like IL-76.
Well, at least externally it doesn't make a frog leap from this concept. It's hard to say what wing was at the beginning.
Forward fuselage refined and wing box was moved up to save volume for cargo bay, that actually has almost the same size as An-70 (at least if we trust 603 Institute guys article) while fuselage diameter went down 100 mm less than An-70.
I'm not sure about cargo floor length, its about 20-21 m according to my calculations, that can hold 3 ZBD003 on platforms.
Who were the parents of tail section you'd probably know...fuselage structure is quite conservative compared to An-70 that use much more composites. Guess that T-tail consoles are metal with composite rudders and fairings.
Anyway, it looks quite balanced and aesthetically appealing design. With new engines it will look even better. Rather disturbing is low pace of flight tests. Huitong reported that 20-002 was rolled out in May, but on some reasons didn't fly yet.
I expect guys have some structural problems, remembering these tail tremors on quite an accurate touchdown. Well, Tong was cautious talking of test period saying of 5 years. Even in this case, compared to FLA/A400, it's quite a good temps.
I'm quite sure that MBT transportation was in RFI, but hardly can imagine where you gonna fly them after reading PLAAF White Book))
