How do we know that this is the 3rd prototype? the 2nd one only flew in december.

As far as I know this is actually the third aircraft to be numbered 20003 but the second One only to fly with 20002 Most likely a static one.

That's right the second one was the one that was covered in that blue cover sitting on the tarmac a few months ago and the 3rd one is the second one to fly

Also for Y-20 it makes sense you will need one for static and extensive structural testing after all it's a heavy transport

I would expect a few more for testing also

I wonder why China was never interested in the AN-124.

Maybe the PLA doesn't feel like it needs the AN-124 as an organic part of its fleet.

They can (and did) charter or lease from Russian and Ukrainian carriers when there's occasionally a need to fly oversized cargo.

True. In november last year, AN-225 went to china to pick cargo.

By 2015 Y-20 will be test flying with WS-20, and mass production begin in 2018 !!!

Why 2015? we have seen only one photo of WS-20 being tested since january this year (have that photo been confirmed?). Could they install that engine in a prototype? prototype engine in a prototype plane?
