China's Space Program Thread II

Because of the orbital inclination of the Chinese space station the Russians will likely need a new launch pad and vehicle.
Those are currently being worked on, but it will take many years to be in service. There is also a likelihood some projects might get cancelled to cut costs because of the war and the sanctions.

I think Roscosmos has put money into too many space launcher projects. Angara was supposed to be a universal launcher family but now it turns out traditional Soyuz will continue and they are also making two new rockets Soyuz 5 and Yenisei. The way the Russians run their space program is highly wasteful.

As I understand Angara is meant to replace the Proton-M since the Proton is launched exclusively from Baikonur, which Angara doesn't need to as it can use the Plesetsk and Vostochny Cosmodromes instead.

Russia currently doesn't have a super heavy in the 100-tonne range to LEO, but more importantly any meaningful payload capacity e.g. 25-50 tonnes to TLO a la CZ-9 or SLS. That's what Yenisei is for, otherwise the ILRS will have to rely solely on the CZ-9 during its building phase in early to mid-2030s, which is looking more likely to be the case anyway, as it doesn't look like Yenisei will even be ready by then.

Soyuz-5 is just a scaled down Yensiei. If anything it's the Angara that seems to be wasteful in like-for-like capabilities as the Proton just so Roscosmos doesn't have to pay the Kazakhs like $100M each year to launch from Baikonur.

Some Western commentators really like to add a qualifier whenever they mention China-Russia cooperation.
I said more than once, and I repeat again this Andrew Jones is just a sour grape narcissist.

These kind of commentators are repeating well known facts to serve the political purpose to divide China and Russia. It is the same as CZ-5's fuel tank.

Here is how it goes,
West "Russia is incapable of doing A".
China "I know, I did not expect that either, we will work on something else together."
Russia "I know, I am going to work on B".
West, Repeat the known fact indefinitely.

Who is the audience? What is the purpose of repeating well-known fact? Whenever someone ask these questions, the west will say "I am just saying the fact, are you not capable of accepting the fact? are you not honest?" This kind of behavior is common among many western "professionals". They have no interest in science and technology, but only politics.

Another 10m diameter ring component for heavy lift (CZ-9). This is made by WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) by a team lead by 卢秉恒 Lu Bingheng in 2021. It weights one tonne and takes one month to make.

There was another 10m ring made by Southwest Aluminium Group in 2016 which was a more traditional method Rolling. It has been reported here before.
