5月17日10时49分,我国在西昌卫星发射中心用长征三号乙运载火箭,成功发射第五十六颗北斗导航卫星。
China launched the 56th satellite of the Beidou Navigation System by a CZ-3B rocket from Xichang in 10:42 UTC+8, May 17. This is the 473rd CZ series rocket launch.

第五十六颗北斗导航卫星由中国航天科技集团有限公司五院研制。该卫星属地球静止轨道卫星,是我国北斗三号工程的首颗备份卫星。入轨并完成在轨测试后,将接入北斗卫星导航系统。此次发射是北斗三号工程高密度组网之后,时隔3年的首发任务。

该卫星的发射将进一步提升系统服务性能,对推广北斗系统特色服务、支撑北斗系统规模应用具有重要意义。该卫星实现了对现有地球静止轨道卫星的在轨热备份,将增强系统的可用性和稳健性,提升系统现有区域短报文通信容量三分之一,提高星基增强和精密单点定位服务性能,有助于用户实现快速高精度定位。

执行此次发射任务的长征三号乙运载火箭由航天科技集团一院抓总研制。属于“金牌火箭”长征三号甲系列,采用长三甲系列火箭统一构型设计思路。长三甲系列火箭由长三甲、长三乙、长三丙三种大型低温液体运载火箭组成。
This #56 satellite is the first online backup satellite of the Beidou Navigation System. It is the online backup node distributed in GEO orbit.

The launch is the first mission in three years after the deployment of the high-density networking of the Beidou-3 project.

The launch of this satellite will incerase the capacity of the Beidou short-messaging system by 1/3, improve the performance of satellite-based augmentation and precise point positioning services, and thus help the Beidou users accessing the fast and high-precision positioning service.

- Internal volume is ≥7 cubic meters.
- Must be capable of autonomous rendezvous and docking with the Chinese space station and stay in orbit for at least three months.
- Must be capable of controlled atmosphere re-entry.
- Launch prep time ≥30 days.
- Cost per trip ≤120 million RMB

关于征集空间站低成本货物运输系统总体方案的公告_中国载人航天官方网站​

为进一步降低空间站上行货物运输成本,增强上行货物运输的灵活性,探索发展商业航天模式,现面向全社会发布公告,征集空间站低成本货物运输系统总体方案。后续我办将根据方案征集情况,组织择优并开展低成本货物运输系统研制及飞行验证,市场化采购低成本货物运输服务,最终构建安全可靠、形式多样、效益突出的空间站天地货物运输体系。

二、征集方案内容

根据空间站低成本货物运输系统技术指南(详见附件),论证提出包括货物运输飞行器、运载火箭及发射支持在内的低成本货物运输系统一体化总体方案。具体方案内容应包括任务需求论证、主要功能与指标、国内外发展情况、货物运输航天器技术方案、运载火箭选用及发射支持方案,与相关系统接口、主要关键技术、安全性可靠性设计、商业模式、研制流程、研制基础以及经费需求等。

三、申报单位条件

(一)成立满三年以上,具有独立法人资格和健全的组织机构。

(二)具有满足申请承担任务需要的专业技术人员、主要设施设备等。

(三)建立并有效运行质量管理体系,具有与申请承担任务相当的质量管理水平。

(四)资金经营状况良好,具备与申请承担任务相适应的资金规模。

(五)遵纪守法、诚实守信,具有良好的履约信用。

四、截止日期

申报截止日期为2023年7月15日,申报方案需加盖单位公章并现场提交,同时附单位资质证明等相关附件。​

Announcement on the Collection of the Overall Plan for the Low-cost Cargo Transport System of the Space Station_China Manned Spaceflight Official Website​

In order to further reduce the cost of up-bound cargo transportation on the space station, enhance the flexibility of up-bound cargo transportation, and explore the development of commercial spaceflight models, we are now issuing an announcement to the whole society to solicit the overall plan of the low-cost cargo transportation system of the space station. In the future, according to the collection of the plan, our office will organize the selection of advantages and carry out the development and flight verification of low-cost cargo transportation systems, market-based procurement of low-cost cargo transportation services, and finally build a safe, reliable, diverse and effective space station cargo transportation system.

II. Contents of the collection plan

According to the technical guidelines for the low-cost cargo transportation system of the space station (see the annex for details), the overall plan for the integration of low-cost cargo transportation systems, including cargo transportation vehicles, launch vehicles and launch support, is proposed. The specific plan should include mission requirements demonstration, main functions and indicators, domestic and foreign development, cargo transport spacecraft technology plan, launch vehicle selection and launch support plan, interface with relevant systems, main key technologies, safety and reliability design, business model, development process, development foundation and funding. Demand, etc.

III. Application Unit Conditions

(1) An independent legal person and a sound organizational structure that has been established for more than three years.

(2) Have professional and technical personnel, main facilities and equipment, etc. to meet the needs of the application for undertaking tasks.

(3) Establish and effectively operate a quality management system, with a quality management level comparable to the application for undertaking tasks.

(4) The capital operation is in good condition and has a capital scale that is suitable for the task of applying for undertaking.

(5) Law-abiding, honest and trustworthy, and have good performance credit.

IV. Deadline

The deadline for declaration is July 15, 2023. The application plan shall be stamped with the official seal of the unit and submitted on the spot, and the relevant attachments such as the qualification certificate of the unit shall be attached.​

I am puzzled by this "no less than 1.8t payload" requirement. ISS is resupplied twice a year by Dragon 2 (4t). Tianzhou at 7t may be able to resupply Tianhe every 8 months. Somewhere around 2t like this requirement need more frequent launches, let's say every three months. It won't be cheap UNLESS the rocket is reusable. But even if the rocket is reusable and making 3-months launching frequency economically feasible, why not make a 4t reusable cargo ship and reduce the lauches?

I think the key of my quesiton is, why so frequent?

Answerring myself, more frequent does give the feeling of space travel like a regular train service, therefor more feasible for real commercial application.

Launchpad no. 1 of Hainan Commercial Spaceport has been capped. According to Mr. Wu Yitian, the chief of the Hainan Commercial Spaceport construction project, launchpad no. 1 will be used to launch StarNet satellites in the first half of 2024. StarNet is the Chinese competitor to the Starlink.

A booster test of the Weifeng-1/AW-1 (卫风一号) rocket has been successfully completed. Weifeng-1 is capable of level fight (平飞). Not sure what this entails, but is it a rocket-powered aircraft? It's expected to provide service to customers beginning in 2024. Does anyone have more information on the nature of this system and what it will be used for?
