The Tianlong-2 (天龙二号) rocket developed by the private launch provider Beijing Tianbing Technology (北京天兵科技) has been shipped to launch site for its maiden test flight. The TL-2 is a reusable three-stage LOX/Kerosene rocket with a total length of 32.8 meters and a mass of 150 tons at take-off. Payload capacity to LEO is two tons and to SSO is 1.5 tons.

BIS adds 86 new companies to the Bureau's entity list for supporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This includes seven Chinese entities who "significantly contribute to Russia's military and/or defense industrial base." The list include China HEAD Aerospace which have access to 91 Earth observation satellites. So another chinese satellite firm is supplying sat imagery to RU

What can they realistically do though? I thought there is no collab due to Wolf Amendment?

I mean they can cut them off from US currency transactions, US components & other inputs, etc but it doesn't look like those entities conduct business with anyone that transacts with the US or within the US so at this point its just a feel good exercise. Its not like they have US assets that can be seized or will suffer disruptions since the US already bans space technology/component exports to China. They have to do something for appearances but unless more details emerge about the entities business activities its meaningless.

This cutout is from three images acquired in 2022 and 2023. The rover is the dark and relatively bluish feature visible in the upper middle of the first (left) image and lower middle of the other two images. This time series shows that the rover has not changed its position between Sept. 8, 2022 and Feb. 7, 2023. (Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/UArizona)

Data from NASA's Perseverance rover, a nuclear-powered spacecraft that can operate through winter, suggests that Mars is still quite cold — potentially below Zhurong's operating levels.

China aims to launch nearly 13,000 satellites to ‘suppress’ Elon Musk’s Starlink, researchers say

  • The satellite constellation is likely to be launched quickly to prevent SpaceX from hogging ‘low-orbit resources’, according to PLA space scientists
  • The project, code-named ‘GW’, would provide internet services and could be used to spy on rival networks and carry out anti-Starlink missions, paper says

The more important part is this.

So Chinasat-26 serves areas surrounding China, MiddleEast, ASEAN & North Pacific. So I'd imagine this includes Central Asia also. Basically the most immediate BRI countries.

Follow on satellites will have 300Gbps and cover BRI routes. That's quite significant. Their goal is to serve the world and provide this service to the world.

for all the aviation fans out there, a major competitor to this is Viasat, which launched Viasat-2 in 2017 which covers all the routes your typical US airlines would fly and give them high speed internet access

properties of Viasat-2. Note it has 2.6x the capacity of Chinasat-26 and was launched more than 5 years ago.
  • Speed: Up to 100 Mbps
  • Capacity: 260 Gbps
  • Weight of satellite: 6,400kg or 7.4 tons
  • Service launch date: February 2018
Viasat-3 is suppose to launch this year.

Edit: took a look at it a little more. Looks like Viasat and ChinaSat are actually partners for IFC. For example, Sichuan Airlines recently just added Viasat IFC that connects to ChinaSat.

I guess their main competitor here is Gogo and Intelsat which uses the older Ku band satellite technology.

Chinasat-26 is only second gen, which is pretty outdated by today's standard
