Chinese Mars rover makes it down to surface after months of preparation in orbit.
HELSINKI — China succeeded with its first planetary landing attempt Friday, safely setting down the solar powered Zhurong rover on the surface of Mars.
The 240-kilogram Zhurong rover touched down on the dunes of southern Utopia Planitia just after 7:00 p.m. Eastern May 14 after three months of preparations in orbit and around 9 minutes after entry into the Martian atmosphere.

This is why attempts to block China’s semiconductor industry are futile. When there is a will, there is a way.

Looks like we'll get some photos by mid-day. :D


On CCTV it was reported that "first opportunity to downlink photos will be around midday-afternoon BJT", i.e. within next few hours. The relay orbiter is currently on the opposite side of Mars.


WeMartians Podcast have plotted the landing site based on the data given.




It's coming in. But look out for the comments sections if there were one. I would bother to read the usual shade.

I've already read some of them; not pretty. It's best to take the high road in this Cold War.
