Remember Xi's speech in 2014 Where he called on Sharpening the offensive and defensive abilities of China. I'm not saying Don't be skeptical. but I am also not saying don't dismiss out of hand. I expect that the PLA is looking into every potential advantage it thinks it can get.
But I don't expect the Death star in my life time.

I'm not dismissing it out of hand because I think it's impossible to develop or build, I'm dismissing it because it has no credibility behind the claim. This is the kind of fanboy ideas in the same scope as China building flying aircraft carriers or what not.

ASBM, Hypersonic vehicle...China always looking out for the next assassin mace.

Track record is right there.

but this does two things first It's now a Fractional Orbital Bombardment System and violation of SALT II and would likely result in other nations deploying space based nuclear weapon platforms.

1)SALT II is between US and Soviet. China has nothing to do with it. China has not sign anything with anybody regarding space. It has learned a value lesson from UNCLOS case. Don't sign for anything its not sure or later will get constrained.

2)China is not afraid other nations deploying space based nuke, as long as it can strike back. Its current nuclear deterrence got undermined by Thaad, so it will look for new balance.

Also, its a taboo to talk about putting nuke in space?, yet it's OK to talk about and actual deployment of MAD nuke exchange based on earth.

Isn't it kind of cynical and ridiculous?!

It's being so all because certain country has an effective shield on earth against ground based nuke. That's why it promoting space is off limit.

From what I read, China is not going to be cornered by Thaad on earth, it will go to space to look for breakthrough.

Not enough reason to entertain the idea that they are currently developing space weapons.

Now, I'm sure they've done studies into it as any responsible military would have, but that's vastly different to what you claimed which is that they are currently actively developing space weapons especially in the absence of any sort of evidence. "I heard they will" at this stage is far from good enough.

Hell, even if they were developing space weapons we probably would never know about it until the first components are sent into orbit.

They talked about it because it's first time Thaad being deployed next door.

The trajectory is right there. You should able to tell where the ball would land.

Out of all the responses they can consider to THAAD, developing and deploying space based weapons is near the bottom of the list.

But whatever, clearly your original post wasn't really serious and you're not exactly defending it that seriously either, so I'm not going to bother trying to convince you.

Tide, I left out the Space Treaty as I wanted to fact check it before adding it. the Space Treaty which China is a Signatory states
  • States shall not place nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction in orbit or on celestial bodies or station them in outer space in any other manner;

Duh, you don't call the shots for them though.

China would be better off with some sort of mobile tube artillery (mounted on a DF-16 or DF-26 TEL chassis?) that fires hypersonic projects (doesn't have to be railguns, could even an electrothermal chemical gun) across the Taiwan Straits.

The conversation is about ICBM substitutes/successors/complementary weapons, not about cross-strait range weapons.
