meh I was always more of a batman fan black, Grey, Yellow, Gold, occasionally Blood red.
Anyway that's likely the case but paint any humanoid robot fire engine red and gold and Tony Stark's name will come up.
In the original Iron man Comics The First two Suits were Grey ( March 1963) and then Gold (April 1963). he chose the red and gold scheme in december 1963 After a villain somehow used the armors color to hack it. how he came to his choice was never really explained by his creators.

Indeed... I wouldn't be surprised if the people who chose the paint scheme were quite aware of Iron Man when they decided on red and yellow, but probably thought they valued the ability to use their nation's colours however they wanted (including on a robot prototype) rather than avoiding it due to the existence of a foreign pop culture icon.

I think they chose to not just embrace the national scheme but Iron man mystique as well. I mean they gave it a Iron man style faceplate and the Chest insignia. they could have given it a red head and breast mounted logo but they chose those Ironman homages.

Hmm I don't know the faceplate looks quite different to that of Iron Man (no separate eyes, for one). And the breast logo is that of CASC I believe, not to mention the chest and should design overall is quite different (if we want to get into the actual details)

Honestly it would be quite weird if they deliberately chose to reflect a foreign pop culture icon for a domestic robot's paint scheme... which is why I think it's more likely they acknowledged the similarity of the colour scheme during brainstorming, but thought their nation's ownership of the colours should take precedence.

Like Bltizo said, I'm pretty sure the reason China’s space agency using the red and yellow or gold color scheme was because of the Chinese flag. And red/gold/yellow is almost like the official/traditional Chinese color for happy events. (chinese palace, Chinese wedding, chinese flag etc...)

I think people are being confirmation bias with eveything made in China now a days. The first thing they do is to look for something that might look similar to the Chinese made item/product and scream copy. If you watch the Japanese animated Transformer you can also accuse China of copying their robots as well. And the chest insignia/power core also right on the chest area as well because that's where the most logical spot to put it. I think is legitimate in some cases with the copying accusation, but to me this is not the case.

ironman.jpg the visor is structural they can't mess to much with that. besides the Iron man visor really is impractical,
I am talking about the paint job here. they could have followed Robonaut and had a gold head.
ISS-31_André_Kuipers_with_Robonaut_2.jpg or a red head with gold stars or racing stripes instead they gave it a very iron man style paint job.

I't not a structural element it's a logo and could have been placed any there on the chest. It also doesn't need to be on a disk it could be painted on again a very iron man choice. Now yes they did use the PRC national colors but there choice of pattern and logo is very Iron manish.

Someone was having fun. The pattern makes it look more like a Power Ranger to me.
the shoulders really evoke the green Zyuranger

Yes, they chose a paint job which was obviously meant to be aesthetically pleasing and sleek...

I don't think anyone is denying the resemblance, it's more about whether they were seeking to make a reference to it or if they recognized it but didn't care because they thought they shouldn't go out of their way to compromise their own colours and aesthetic preferences due to the existence of a fictional character's design...

There have been so many Tony Stark Iron Man Suit designs you'd had to go out of your way to not have one of your robot designs bear a general passing resemblance to one of another of them in colour scheme or general profile.

This is just some bored western journalist trolling. Nothing more. If they painted the helmet all gold, the same journalist would probably be accusing them of "copying" the Robonaut.

The above seemed like almost a tagline when these certain media talked about China Mars missions. And they never failed to purposely not mention that it was a Russian carrier rocket that put it into the wrong earth orbit.
