Re:

WSLC construction site layout

- Two launch pads. Both pads features a fixed service tower with rotating service platforms and a deep flame trench.

- Two VIFs(Vertical Integration Facility). The two are linked together by a horizontal "low bay" for rocket storage.

- The spacecraft processing and launch control facilities are just west of the VIBs(Vehicle Integration Building).

- The tracking stations are located at Tongguling (15 km east of WSLC) and on the Paracel Islands

Re:

I can rant and rant over OT on this subject before popeye gives me the chop. On the subject of space, can you recall that in the 70's, Japan's satellites after launch quite often experienced failures? I recall they had quite a high failure rate but I do not have figures to back up.

As part of the learning curve I would say that it was more of a design fault, rather than build quality. Remember China had a similar problem with a series of launch failures in the 80's.

Three astronauts who had fulfilled China's first manned space docking mission will meet media on Friday, two weeks after their safe return to Earth.

Liu Yang, China's first woman astronaut, together with veteran astronaut Jing Haipeng and crewmate Liu Wang, returned to Earth on June 29 following the successful docking between the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft and the Tiangong-1 space lab module on June 24.

The astronauts were sent into space aboard the Shenzhou-9 on June 16 from a launch center in northwest China's Gobi desert.

They also conducted a series of scientific tests during the 13-day space flight.

Is it me or does the two "fixed service towers" looks bigger according to the first set of pics?

Yep!

Re:

Chronological Infos on the progress of the upcoming CE-3 mission

Notice the interesting difference here. The CE-3 lander is in free fall from 4 m onwards whereas the Apollo moon lander is said to have its rocket thruster engaged right until touchdown.

Re:

Oh you... never ever miss a beat on pointing out flaws of China.

You're welcome, if thats the way you want to go by misconstruing the conversation I was having with "T2Contra".

Would you like to be walked through the conversation from Post1346?
