Talk About the solar panels

The solar panels on SZ 8-9 and TG-1 use semi-rigid support made of special glass fiber, designed and manufactured by Donghua University in Shanghai after 5 years of development.

They have fiberglass panels embedded with solar cells. They are lighter than the aluminum alloy panels used on spaceship Shenzhou 1 to Shenzhou 7. Moreover, fiberglass is resistant to corrosion and oxidation when flying in the low Earth orbit.

This material provides increased physical strength and a lower mass. The temperature during operation of the panels is also reduced by about 10°C which increases the performance of the panels.

Shanghai Donghua University is now working on new materials for satellite antenna to cut the country's dependence on foreign technology.

A weather forecast on Wednesday from meteorological authorities with north China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has indicated conditions will suit the scheduled return to Earth of the country's Shenzhou-9 astronauts later this week.

A return capsule is due to land Shenzhou-9's three-member crew in Inner Mongolia's Siziwang Banner (county) on Friday, when the region is expected to see clouds with clear spells.

The landing zone will receive light to moderate rain with thunder form Wednesday to Thursday, according to the regional meteorological bureau.

And the weather is now changing to a beneficial condition that meets the requirements of the landing, said Han Jingwei, the bureau's chief weatherman.

The bureau has undertaken extensive observation ahead of the landing, with June a month that typically contains the year's most complicated weather, he added.

TQ-1/SZ-9 performed a 180° rotation to move SZ-9 into return position. The separation will be done manually for the first time.
