China's SCS Strategy Thread

Filling out low tide elevations with sand is not really high tech. Its costly but not so high tech that Vietnam cannot match China, especially since Vietnam has the actual real estate where they can build it, China does not.

Anyways, as I said practically speaking China still has some low tide areas jn their existing reefs that they can expand but there is a limit since they control the least number of features in the spratlys.

Vietnam's economy is growing, they have the money to easily outbuild China if they want to, cause they control the largest number of features.

Vietnamese are known to be extremely anti-China. The pro-US south vietnamese are even more so. It is said that the only thing preventing Vietnam from becoming a US ally is the communist party.

If they are overthrown in a color revolution like what we are seeing in Iran, its not so far fetched that Vietnam will quickly become a US bastion.

The likelihood of Vietnam becoming anti-China is much higher than people think.

Ultimately, China should not be so okay with Vietnam building these artificial islands now. They should start putting pressure to stop the buildup.
It's better to have a few big ones build up and defensible than 30 smaller ones with bare necessities. No matter how much Vietnam grows they can't make all of their atolls the same capacity of what China have done, it just costs too much. Budget will be limited, if they want to modernize their hardware then no money for building islands. If they build up islands then no money to buy stuff to put on them.

Essentially if you are trying to defend everything, then you are defending nothing. If there is a conflict, a couple of hours for each island is all PLAN and Marines need to take each island under Vietnam.

Maybe a silly question....but why are people here so eager to fight Vietnam for a few reefs when they are:
1. already on decent terms diplomatically
2. do not allow US military basing
3. pose basically zero threat to the mainland/SCS operations
This is very much not a Philippines situation...

China has an interest in VN’s political stability. Any serious colour revolution should be opposed via assistance to the CPV if necessary.

If VN were to flip, the various islands would be the least of China’s concerns. VN has a land border with China, and plenty of coastline to stage missiles.
