I think philippines has become so arrogant and delusional that some kind of big crisis in the SCS is inevitable at this point. It may not be armed conflict, but some kind of clash similar to what happened between India and China at the border could happen while Marcos is in Power. And some people will die in the clash, whether its through ramming, melee combat, anything could happen.

Moreover, they are actively provoking a crisis because of massive public support within the Philippines to be "Tough on China". This current negative trend will continue for sometime until Philippines recieves a rude shock similar to what happened to India. After a big crisis, US will also warn Philippines to slow things down and not escalate too much. Only then things will improve.

The thing is you'll think this lesson of "US isn't coming to help you" should have been learnt after 2016. I take it the result of the 2016 stand off isn't talked about much in Philippines.

Well we the ordinary Filipinos know BUT the political elite and the oligarch can't cause they're NOT Filipinos they hold DUAL PASSPORT and can easily leave if shit hits the fan. That's the thing if China will coopt them, they'll sing a different tune. All those noises came from Manila and are few in numbers, like I said Manila isn't the Philippine BUT POWER is concentrated in this imperial city. They want to make the other region poor so that they can control the resources. With these riches they can pick and choose who can and can't run for public office, its a perpetual cycle of nepotism and traditional politics with family politics at its core.

You can bet on the elites being the first ones out after disturbing the shit out of SCS. Hell, I would be surprised if they haven’t started already. That’s how little regard they have for people who would be stuck in a war-torn Philippines. Hawks like the PMA-flunkie Jay Tarriela should be on the first ships out there trying to engage Type 055s. Morons like Max Montero should leave Australia and return to the Philippines to back his fighting words up.
