China's SCS Strategy Thread

look at Ukraine in its present state, its geographical boundaries shattered, its energy supply and economy broken, its brains emigrated, and its future is bleak indeed with no imminent prospect of recovery in sight. All it has now are empty western promises and support which are also fast vanishing.
Therefore if the Philippine Government thinks that it can force China to accede to its demand for a big share of the SCS real estate along with its underlying resources by relying on American backing, it is sorely mistaken. It had better think again, twice, and thrice before making any unwise move. The Philippines is simply not in a position to play hardball against China as the chance of winning is dismal, as the mighty Dragon lives right next door and is not moving away. This is a hard geopolitical fact that the PG must take into account in its calculations.
Even die-hard anti-China Lithuania sees the tide is turning and is subtly asking China to relax its economic sanctions.
To me (I must admit I may be biased, smiles) the direction the Philippines people should take is clear. Side with the Dragon!! China has no record of invading and colonizing any country!!
China wishes for co-development and mutual benefits with partnering countries in its BRI and RCEP projects, so while China brings the prospect of wealth and development, America brings bombs and destruction in its "America First" strategy. So please don't fall for this American strategy of "divide and conquer" to maintain its own global hegemony.
it is a no-brainer for the PG to sit down and negotiate hard with China to extract maximum benefits for its national interests.
But to threaten China with US bases on Philippine soil is to invite disaster because once China is forced to turn Scarborough Shoal into a major fortress as a response to American build-up there, the Sino-Philippine relation will nosedive and be bad for ASEAN as a whole.

SCMP western boot lickers may think so, but NOPE.
I will warn you not to over estimate the strategic intelligence of Philippines' policymakers. Nation of their size and statue always almost will be easily swayed/influenced by coercive measures. If Philippines has been really capable, they would have been way more developed than the current state.

Philippines is doing ok. They are going to use the Americans as leverage when negotiating with China, which will strengthen their hand.

Where it could go wrong is if a war happens and Philippines doesn't play it well and allows the US to use its airbases when striking against China, that's the danger for them.

So, as a balance, positive for Philippines only if their president isn't a <50 IQ monkey. If he is an idiot, then Philippines is pretty much screwed

Hahahaha! got it bro, IF ever we elect such a person then the joke is on us and you will see me join @NiuBiDaRen in Singapore....lol And it may happen cause the American prefer it that way, just look at the politician running for president this year, all low bar unfit for higher office, people like Manny Pacquiao, Lenny Robredo and Isko Moreno all supported and groom by the US. And all lost heavily because the American insults are hard to bear. ;)

I am skeptical. How will Philipine use US base as a leverage for negotiating with China? First it is an insult to supply geopolitical enemy of China in their plan of encirclement. Second there is nothing they can do to kick US out even if China makes a good counter offer.

Here is an equally absurd idea. How about Mexico be a forward supply base for China and Russia? That will surely 'strengthen Mexico's hand negotiating with US' right?
