All these actions would be considered provocative and hostile which is probably why all the base building in the Spratlys died down from the 90s, contradicts the peaceful rise image. But if basing of planes and ships are needed, I think it be easier and better secured to just simply build out a runway/base/harbor, like a South China Sea Diego Garcia. At least it would unsinkable. :D

Vietnam is not the only problem, to claim the Spratly island and all the oil and gases beneath it, China needs to deal with the entire ASEAN, plus the odd ROC garrison. Since ASEAN is currently on a good term with China, it is unwise to provoke them for possible oils, at least China needs a quite backyard in order to deal with Taiwan and Japan.

Just get there before the Viets do, I don't see why we need a military option.

I don't think there are a lot of pics out there and the ones that exist are probably dated. But yes, it would be nice to see what kind of developments are out there.

Humm?:confused: That top picture looks retouched..not PS but retouched. Enhanced in other words.....

Can someone "google up" the Spratlys and let's see what we can see?? I know those google sat pics are dated but I just want to see them for comparison sake.
