China's arms-exports in general

That might take decades. My understanding is that while the top Chinese engineering schools have world class undergraduate programs, their post graduate programs are lacking compared to developed nations. Tsinghua just can't produce the same level of PhDs and research as Caltech or MIT, and it'll take a long time to catch up. It'll be a while before China can lead in innovation.

plus the fact that even when excellent engineer or scientist are produced in China's university, they will be attracted to Multinational corporations and foregin research institution where the standards of living are higher. China has to make itself an appealing place to live and work or else it will always have problem attracting and retaining talents.

alright, just a little bit on the export from AVIC2 last year, posted by huitong, from aerospace news recently

last year AVIC 2 realized 4 k-8, 2 Z-9, 7 Y-12, 6 Q-5 and 2 Y-8's export transaction. handed over 14 k-8 and 3 k-8's upgrade, 5 Y-12 and 10 K-8E kits. So far, K-8 has achieved 226 exports to 10 countries.

I know Pakistan is a big customer with co-development of aircraft and tanks. It's a strategic alliance with Pakistan to act as a counterwieght to India. Are there any other countries that are arms customers and strategic allies as well?

China continues to deprive USA of its military predominance

China struck its first important deals in the missile industry with Saudi Arabia in 1988 and with Pakistan in 1992. It is worthy of note that the two contracts were signed with USA’s staunch allies. However, the USA did not rejoice over the growing military potential of its friends. Quite on the contrary, the USA lost its monopoly on many technologies which guaranteed the military predominance of the United States.
The Chinese administration prefers to avoid international scandals. Therefore, China currently sells spare parts, equipment for technical servicing, missile fuel technologies and provides technical support. China’s clients in this industry can be divided into three groups: members of the ‘axis of evil’ (Iran and North Korea for instance), USA’s allies that can bring unpleasant surprises for the superpower in the future (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan) and Latin American countries (Argentine and Brazil).

They talk a lot of the danger of Iran becoming a nuclear weapon state. Persia/Iran never fought Hebrews/Jews in the past- in fact the Cyrus the great liberated them from the Babylonian captivity-but fought Arabs, Turks and Russians instead. Egypt and other Arabs did fight Israel. If Egypt and Saudi Arabia add nukes to their missile arsenals , how would Israelis feel than?

Oh really? And these insights of youres are based on what? I never have heard any case where Chinese rifles or any rifle based on kalashnikoviks concept is unrealible. In fact th fact that our defence force bought several hundres of thousands copies of chinese made Aks is to me the best proof for their robbustness, in the end they are mented to supplement the best assault rifle that there is (My biased but humble obinion)

And what comes to aircrafts, didn't bother to check that Su-30MK family is not even used by the Russians. The letter K stands russian word for export...

So don't even try to flame things around here. Back up your statements!

Didn't China sell the new Iraqi government tons of new assault rifles and pistols? Actually it was the US that bought them, then supplied the Iraqis with such.

How am I trying to flame?

As for as the Su-30MK family, I was going by what Russia can offer ATM. Regardless the J-10 is nothing to a Su-30 or a F-16 C/D for that matter.

I'll dig up the unreliable Chinese rifle link later, ok? :)

It doesn't make much sense to speculate too much regarding the J-10's capabilities yet, as it really has yet to be seen how it can perform. But just from a purely technical aspect, it is definitely on par with the Su-30 or F-16C/D level.

His insights are probably based on reliability of type56 rifles manufactured during Cold war period and early 90s; compared to other AK clones those rifles were produced from lower quality materials and with quite low quality control, lacked the chrome plating and were generally non resistant to corrosion...
Later type56 modification were of much higher quality thanks to better materials and improved manufacturing process.

I imagine the North Korean experience would be enough for a country to swear off strategic alliances permanently.

I know Kuwait bought a batch of 155mm SP howitzers from China. Does anyone know if Kuwait is happy with the product? The deal is a little outside the norm for Chinese weapons sales. I don't think the Chinese army even uses the system.

I would rather view the need for developing strategic allies by China. Chinese must never allow it self to be militarily isolated by the potential enemies.

As far as I know the Kuwaities are amply imprssed with their batch of 155mm SP guns, and they are actively considering to order more. So is the case with Bangladesh Army. Their batch of the same 155mm SP guns have earned good name there too.You might be very curious to know that according to UN documents Bangladesh has purchased highest amount worth of Chinese weapon systems in 2007.

The Bangladeshi purchase list of Chinese weapons in 2007 includes following:

1. 16 F-7s.
2. 65 155mm SP Guns.
3. 40 (or so) 122mm SP Guns.
4. Entire Upgradation Packages for 100 T69s/T-59s.

Apart from these Bangladesh has obtained Liscenced production right to T-81 Assault Rifles and QW-2 MANPADs (SAMs) at BOF this year.

Thanks
