Xi Jinping's new speech on dangers of Han chauvinism and regional (i.e. minority) nationalism.

Note that Han chauvinism is placed ahead of regional nationalism.

As I mentioned in the Afghanistan strategy thread, Han supremacists (皇汉) are going amok on the Chinese internet and in need of some serious reining in. Yesterday I thought to myself that Xi should give a speech on this. I hope there will some concrete actions now Xi has spoken.

What the heck are the right wingers are saying on the Chinese internet anyway? Are they calling for China to join the U.S. in bombing Afghanistan or some stupid s..t like that? And just how influential are these rubble rousers really are?

Extreme Islamophobia. Demanding complete assimilation of minorities into Han culture. Myth that the Chinese culture industry is completely controlled by Manchu and is pushing an anti-Han agenda. Thinking Yuan and Qing are not legitimate Chinese dynasties. Basically the Chinese version of Hindutva.

If China was a democracy and I was a politician, I know which crowd am going to grease my political fortunes from to attain power and money. The unending chaos, political infighting, political assassinations, not to mention publicly and democratically sanctioned discrimination against other Chinese ethnic minorities in China at the mercy and whim of the right wing hyper nationalists. It'll make the Republican right looks tame and angels compare to what could have happened in China. India and other claimants in the SCS ought to thank their pretty little stars that China's system isn't run democratically otherwise there would have been war taken place against all her enemies. And the U.S. isn't going to be allied with these countries since China is going to be their biggest ally in Asia due to its massive market, size of the economy and most importantly for finally adopting their American way of running a country. Japan? The Philippines? Vietnam? Oh India?

What a joke. Ironically, those “nationalists” play right into the hands of the Japanese nationalists who used that same lie to push for the division of China during the 19th and 20th centuries. And they just demonstrated that their understanding of Chinese history is basically garbage.

Watching youtube and some of the aweful China propagandist on social media, it seems China really lets in and recruits the bottom of the pool of "western" people just because they grew up speaking english. I have heard stories of Chinese Americans (ABC) trying to return to China but face discrimination because they lack proficiency in Chinese or are paid less to teach english.
