This pictures show the production facility for the Yuan AIP sub, supposedly the sub is PLA's most advanced diesel sub, but the production site looks like of unprofessional. It looks like a junkyard.

Basically this mess can be viewed both ways:

No doubt the yard looks like crap (they certainly are in need an iron fisted foreman there!:D) and the manufacturing technology appears to have the state of art as if the first Dreadnought is yet to be laid down...
BUT
building fairly advanced SSK's under such ´peculiar´ conditions is indeed a big feat and furthermore this shows China's huge potential of expanding and if necessary also camouflaging the production of subs. Heck, if they can build a Yuan at this kind of place they could build scores of them at a myriad of small or medium sized yards.

keep in mind that this is an inland river shipyard, located in Wuhan, far from the developed coastal areas. Im sure shangai and dalian shipyards are way better than this (if not they wouldnt have built type 071, 052C and others)

I take it you don't see many construction sites.

China has over $2.4 Trillion of forex and it doesn't know how to use that money.

How about spend alittle of that and have modern, clean looking production facility?

It ain't that much to ask.

forex can be used to buy foreign equipments or pay for technology transfer for foreign production equipment technology.

SOEs has some of the more backward type of production equipments and they made them too, but obviously need to upgrade them too.

Listen guy If Chinese shipyard is so bad How come China is the number 1 Shipbuilder in the world. You make baseless judgement based on photo god know where they come from and it doesn't look anything like a shipyard more like a construction site. You just pick and chooses photo to bash China . Look at modern Changxin shipyard they look as modern as anything in Japan or Korea.

So you think Wuhan, a metropolis of 9 million people with 22 colleges and universities and a major center of steel and machinery industry is a rusty underdeveloped inland backwater, kroko??

At least the US State Department is not that way behind the curve since the newest US Consulate in China opened 2008 actually in Wuhan and besides France the business savvy South Koreans are following suit this year. Shanghai will have to watch out in the coming years...:D
