I think it is now safe to say that DF-21 series has retired from active deployment, with confirmation via news/videos that the last remaining DF-21D is being replaced by more advanced missile.

You may still see in official photo release but used as trainer or for test.

Hi Kalec. Do you happen to have a link for news or video of DF-21D retirement? Thanks

mainly this one, STC brigade seen with DF-26.

ETC brigade confirmed to upgrade to something.
改革强军中,这支部队先后经历两次装备换型、数次改革整编,部队建设始终保持较快发展
In reform of our force, this unit has experienced two equipment upgrades, several reforms and integrations, and the construction of the army has always maintained rapid development.

This ETC brigade starts with DF-21C in ~2004, then changed to DF-21C/D in ~2011, now upgraded to something new starting from ~2019.

What happens to all the retired hardware such as missiles, TELs, support equipment etc? Mothballed into storage or disposed off?

Absolutely amazed by the fact -if true-that the DF21xx series missile system is being retired as it seems only yesterday that it was touted by friends and enemies alike as a symbol of Chinese missile prowess and the "spear/shield to ward off the USN/japan.IF true the successor to the DF21 would be at least 1 generation ahead and very formidable indeed ...but do keep the usable DF21's in China's quiver in worst case future.

Exhibition, some of DF-11 is retired and being shown in military graveyard.

ABM target, some of DF-21/DF-4 were used as target during ABM test.

Training, no need for explanation.

Explosive test, some are used for test purpose to see how the propellant holds up after decades of service or what happen if missile is blown up in storage.
