As it seems, the new movie "长空之王" (King of the Sky ?) briefly shows an interesting J-16 featuring what appears to look like the WS-10B-3 TVC nozzle. Most likely a movie-gimmick but anyway interesting.

At first sight I thought it is the TVC-nozzle, now - if real anyway - it is more likely the WS-10C for the J-20. So how likely is it this J-16 no. 1619 is a test-bed or is it more likely just a movie gimmick?

Seems like it might be an actual real life test rig aircraft because only the left engine has the petal arrangement. For a movie prop, you'd think they'd just use basic J-16 available for filming. Haven't watched it so I'm not sure what the context of the scene is so maybe there's something to be said with that but if it's just a random scene, could it be intentional insertion of typical PLA style leaking methods? If it's a scene about a test base where they talk about testing another TVC/higher thrust WS-10x engine type on J-16 to replace WS-10A, then it's probably just a movie prop, if it's thrown in without narrative then it might be an example of a real test J-16 platform housing a WS-10x as left engine.

Exactly my point, even if similar to the previous movie there is a lot of crappy CG included and certain details which simply make no sense. On the other hand, they also used real aircraft and if I remember correctly, it was one of the first clear sighting of a J-10C carrying a targeting pod, LGBs and the YJ-91 ARM.

That thing on top of the fuselage, above the engines, is that a harness for the spin recovery parachute? I remember those are sometimes used on test article aircraft, in case the plane goes into a deep stall. It could make sense that such harness would be needed for a plane testing a new, so far untested engine. Especially if it was, indeed, a vectoring nozzle one.

had the same thought, the location and orientation seems like it could be a spin recovery chute, although the only examples I can currently go by is the J-10B TVC , F-18 HARV and the F-35

I have a question, does J-16 have a MAWS? If so do we have a photo where a sensor can be seen? Unlike J-11 I haven't seen anything resembling a MAWS sensor on a J-16.
