Why J-11 is in awkward position ?
offer nothing new in terms of functionality.
Just got confirmation via my Russian contacts, this is a totally faked report and page.

But a lot cheaper than J-20. And with J-11D, very much extremely useful 4.5 Gen very modern fighter
Still not as useful as J16. Akin to F15 C/D vs F15E. Even the US is going the F15EX and Russian going SU-30SM2 way.
I think this is not a fixed deal? Why should it be not as useful as the J-16? We know barely anything about the individual systems, radar capabilities and if the Su-35 is useful in RuAF service besides the Su-30SM2, why not the J-11D?
I agree with you that there seems to be a trend towards twin-seater and more multirole engagement capabilities, but I for air to air, I think we simply don't know enough to say it is not useful as!
