In the first video at about the .40 second mark as he begins and ends the very sharp turn, you can hear the AB, it is definetly HOT, but the flame has the more orange appearance and is difficult to see, but he is in burner. NO the J-11 will not turn with the J-10 as far as "minimum radius", nor will it turn with the SU-30 or SU-35 that are equipped with OVT, OVT will give you a higher initial turn in rate, as well as help you maintain the very small tight radius.
That's what makes the Raptor the Raptor, and the T-50 the T-50, yes it is heavy, yes it takes more maintenance, may even reduce max thrust? but it does increase your pitch rate as opposed to purely aerodynamic force.
Very nice video, and showing the J-11Bs is very capable of turning and burning, but it is a big heavy airplane, its not small and short coupled like the J-10.
Could it be a surface paint layer that they stick on?
I don't believe so, there are "striations" on the fore and aft section from outboard to inboard, both forward and to the rear of the torsion box, prolly "bosses", "laid into the form" to give it rigidity, or????? I would say its a lay-up that enhances the torsional rigidity of each stabilator which I would guess is carbon fibre? seems odd to me that that are diagonal rather than longitudinally aligned with the air-flow??? and no I do not think they are to energize or enhance aerodynamics?? IMHO Master Delft, Jeff Head, Eng, opinions please or somebody who really knows is welcome to explain it?

The skin is not very stiff, unlike that of the torsion box.
A good indication to your point is the different financial and marketing situations between Sukhoi and Mig today.
