J-11A or Su-27. J-11Bs are not armed with R-73 or R-27...

Colonel
Also, the additional black triangle pointing backwards below the nosecone of the older flankers is a good telltale sign.

I will give a brief synopsis. The pilots in Jinan feel confident enough with their WS-10 equipped J-11Bs to push them to the edge. In a 2 vs 2 free style showdown, the pilots experienced 8 G accelerations at times. After examining the data from the first engagement, the pilots went up and fought for a second round.

I think that WS-10 engines should be pretty reliable at this stage. According to Yankee from CJDBY, we'll see the going at one another at the Golden Helmet exercise later. Watch this space.

The Golden Helmet exercise won't be till much later, but I'll try to update once the news articles come in.

Admittedly, the early batch of WS-10s did have problems. In the late 2000s some of the big shrimps reported that J-11B pilots refused to execute complex maneuvers because they feared that the engine might flame out. However. engines matured and now pilots are comfortable enough with them to push them as hard as possible.

It was actually the big shrimps on Chinese forums that said this originally.

I don't see how this demolish any opinions, since this shows WS-10A is getting better over time or at least PLAAF is more comfortable allowing pilots to push WS-10A further. It's all part of the process of improving the quality of WS-10A. It shouldn't be surprising that WS-10A is becoming more reliable and it's only going to get better over time.

Good news. Even when Air Forces buy new mature jet/engine that have been in the market for decades, it takes years for them to be declared fully operational & be ready to be pushed to the limits, new procedures/tactics are learned, tried & tested on them etc.
PLAAF is the very first to use these WS10 on J11, when u consider the time since they do production & delivered, it's not bad. Many of the complaining on the net are just impatience with fanboys.
