I thought this would be a good thread to start.

Xi is making a grand entrance into Saudi Arabia for his first visit outside of China since COVID. This has to be big. I wonder if this means oil in Yuan and large military deal coming.

Aside from that, Saudi Arabia is also signing military cooperation with Russia. Not that I think Russia can do much right now, but this is a sign I think.

Keep in mind that just recently, China and Saudi Arabia signed a major deal between Sinopec and Aramco.

The scale and scope of the China-Saudi MoU is significant, covering deep and broad co-operation in refining and petrochemical integration, engineering, procurement and construction, oilfield services, upstream and downstream technologies, carbon capture and hydrogen processes. The development of the King Salman Energy Park is also likely to spill over into other manufacturing sectors over time.

We should pay attention that his first visit is going to be to Saudi Arabia. Not Pakistan, Not Russia, not any African country, not any Central Asia country.

Given that China rarely does anything non-symbolic, I agree with you that we should expect something big coming out of this visit. We should pay close attention to the meeting and keep notes in regards to what will be said and what won't.

coming right after Biden's visit. He is getting the red carpet treatment and Biden got embarrassed. I think this is going to be a good visit for China. And given that the kingdom is the leader of Arab world, I'd expect other countries in the region to follow the direction that Saudi Arabia goes for here.

This is pretty huge.

i think through Arab countries China can put alot pressure on India and Europe. India has complete dependence on them. They already prepared for climate change with extensive Water desalination plants. infact the scale of construction is on such scale that there will be less incentive to export through Suez canal. No one will be able to pay for toll and energy costs of empty container ships from Europe to Asia. it really will need to be high value product.
this extra funding is reflection of the demand.

Don not forget China and Saudi Arabia also have extensive cooperation on military equipment. More notable among them - ballistic missiles and military drones.

The significance of Xi's visit to Saudi Arabia is far beyond bilateral, during the time there will be the first Arab Chinese summit.
Basically this visit is China entering the stage of west Asia and Gulf region as a major player. The GCC actually made an official resolution to back SA for holding the event few months ago. The event will be regular.

This does not sound as big as I expected. 110 Riyals is about $29 billion

Assuming the words “initial agreement” isn’t a mistranslation on Reuters part from the Saudi State News. Then there is likely other deals in the working but the details still need to be hashed out before it’s signed. A lot of other deals are expected in the upcoming Arab-China summit that the Saudis are hosting as well.

Deals worth more than $29.3 bln to be signed during Saudi-China summit - SPA

DUBAI, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Initial agreements worth more than 110 billion Saudi riyals ($29.26 billion) will be signed during a Saudi-Chinese summit this week, Saudi state news agency SPA said on Tuesday.

The summit will be held during a two-day visit by the Chinese president to Saudi Arabia beginning on Wednesday.
